Why Invoice Encryption Matters More Than You Think

Why Invoice Encryption Matters More Than You Think

Your invoices contain some of the most sensitive data in your business: bank account numbers, client addresses, financial figures, and tax identifiers. Yet most invoicing platforms store this data in plain text.

At Next Invoice, we encrypt every piece of sensitive data with AES-256-GCM before it reaches the database. This means even if someone gained access to the database, they'd see nothing but encrypted ciphertext.

AES-256-GCM provides both confidentiality (nobody can read your data) and integrity (nobody can tamper with it without detection). Each record uses a unique initialisation vector and includes an authentication tag for verification.

The encryption key never leaves the server. It's stored as an environment variable and is never exposed to the client-side code. This server-side-only approach means your data is protected at every layer.

For businesses handling client financial data, encryption isn't a nice-to-have - it's a responsibility. Next Invoice makes it the default, not an upgrade.
